Chapter 1

A First Look at Interpersonal Relationships

In reading this chapter in Looking Out / Looking In, I was amazed at how much is involved in effective communication. There is definitely more to it than just opening your mouth and speaking.

I honestly had to idea of all the little nuances that are behind communicating. There are many things that I do when I am trying to get my message across but when it is broken down into needs, views, principles and misconceptions etcetera, I get lost in trying to get the words out. So many things need to be taken into consideration in order to be communicating and not just talking.

One of the goals that I have for this class is to improve the level of my communications. This chapter has shown to me that I need to do a lot of work before I can even begin to reach that goal.
